APPLICATION OF THE ACOUSTIC METAMATERIAL IN ENGINEERING: AN OVERVIEW

Abstract

In this paper, an overview of the acoustic metamaterials applied in engineering practice is presented. The main attention is given to the elastic metamaterials with mass-in-mass resonator subunits. Properties of acoustic metamaterial are described. Based on their properties the application in various branches of industry is shown. Acoustic metamaterial are used for noise reduction or elimination in various technical systems including vehicle cabins. Acoustic metamaterial is applied in ultrasonic imaging, energy harvesting, acoustic holographic rendering and thermoacoustic refrigerator, too. In the paper, the directions for future application of the acoustic metamaterial are given.
