ON THE SIMULATION OF ULTRASONIC WAVE MOTION IN THIN COMPOSITE PLATES
The paper analyses a medium consisting of a matrix material subdivided by a large number of periodically spaced joints. With the help of the local interaction simulation approach (LISA), the travel of a pulse through the plate is visualized and analyzed. As it propagates, the principal pulse is reduced by transmission loss at each joint, but close to his arrival is a broad pulse, made up of multiply scattered energy, which appears to diffuse through joints. LISA yields result which agree well with the exact solution for the dispersion of harmonic waves propagating through the jointed medium.
